About Chad Cognata
Colorado Symphony Principal Bassoonist
Chad Cognata has been Principal Bassoon of the Colorado Symphony since 1991. He's served as Principal with the Aspen Music Festival, Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music, and Eastern Music Festival and has performed with the Pittsburgh Symphony and Nashville Symphony.
He's soloed a number of times with the CSO, playing concertos by Mozart, Vivaldi, Michael Daugherty, and John Williams. An avid chamber musician, he was for many years a member of the Lamont Woodwind Quintet while on the faculty at the University of Denver.
A native of Nashville, Tennessee, Chad studied at Indiana University, Aspen Music Festival, and Carnegie Mellon University, where he earned a B.F.A. in Music. His primary teacher was Leonard Sharrow. He also studied with Sidney Rosenberg and Ryohei Nakagwa.
